Charmouth Bed & Breakfast Hotel in the heart of Broadchurch country near Lyme Regis, Dorset.
Charmouth is an unspoilt traditional village on the west coast of Dorset just 2 miles from Lyme Regis. Thatched cottages and buildings dating back hundreds of years, mingle with a selection of pubs and shops.
However, the star of Charmouth is the beach. As part of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the ideal family beach with a mix of sand and pebbles, fossils, clean sea, safe swimming. The naturally eroding cliffs offer unprecedented fossil hunting opportunities, with guided walks offered by the Heritage Centre located at the edge of the beach.
Charmouth is the ideal base from which to explore Dorset, Devon and Somerset. Lyme Regis is just a couple of miles away with its harbour (The Cobb) which features in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion, and in The French Lieutenant's Woman. Lyme Regis offers a wide range of shopping a dining opportunities from it's traditional narrow streets and alleyways.
The beautiful coast road to Weymouth and Portland (home to the 2012 Olympic sailing) runs beside Chesil Beach, an eighteen mile long natural shingle bank, protects the Fleet Lagoon which is home to many wading birds and wildlife. The natural harbour and the castle at Lulworth Cove can be found just beyond Weymouth.
To the west are the coastal towns of Seaton with its narrow gauge tram, Sidmouth, and Budleigh Salterton. Exmouth provides a wider variety of shopping and entertainment, as well as it's sandy beaches and lovely views along the Exe estuary.
The larger towns of Exeter, Taunton, Honiton and Dorchester are all within easy reach.
