Quality Hotel Bed and Breakfast in a quiet location 300 metres from the beach, 2 miles from Lyme Regis
Hensleigh House provides bed and breakfast with a small hotel feel, in the quiet village of Charmouth, just three miles from the busy centre of Lyme Regis. Regular bus services run from Charmouth to Lyme Regis, meaning that visitors do not need to enter the lottery of the town centre parking! Our guests welcome the opportunity to spend days in the busy town centres, but retreat to the quieter environs of Charmouth in the evenings.
The historic town of Lyme Regis is featured in the Doomesday Book and has many historical, literary and educational attractions. Throughout the year there are a multitude of festivals and organised events, providing entertainment for young and old alike.
The historic Cobb and harbour are iconic features, and appear in the film 'The French Lieutenants Woman', and in Jane Austens novel 'Persuasion'. The Cobb was first mentioned in a 1328 document describing it as having been damaged by storms, a fate it has suffered on a number of occasions over the years.
The Town Mill is a watermill dating from 1340 which has been restored to working order and produces flour. It is powered by water from the River Lym via a leat running along a lynch. The Domesday Book records a mill at Lyme in 1086, so the site could be much older.
Lyme Regis has a wealth of small shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, for visitors to explore. Regular events throughout the year also provide many attractions for visitors. See our links on this page for more information.
There are also two museums in the town centre, one dedicated to fossils and the pre-historic finds from the local coastline.
